Recommendations for protecting
your health and reducing the spread of infection:
- Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after
you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also
effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth since this is how germs
spread.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you are sick with a flu-like illness (fever greater than
100 degrees and cough or sore throat), see your doctor immediately.
There are several anti-viral medications that only work within
48 hours of 1st symptom.
WHO
SHOULD GET H1N1
The Novel H1N1 virus has
been infecting a younger population that normal seasonal flu so
the CDC is recommending slightly different groups for vaccination
for H1N1. These are:
- pregnant women
- household contacts of children who are younger than 6 months
of age
- health care workers and emergency medical services personnel
- children and young people between the ages of 6 months and 24
years of age, and
- persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions
that increase their risk for complications from influenza.
